Botanicals
Painting living plants and flowers makes me feel like a research scientist. I perform a careful examination. Are the petals soft or translucent? How do the leaves attach to the stem? Are there thorns? I look for movement, new growth, dryness, and moisture. Do I understand what I’m looking at? The challenge for me as an artist is to bring the plant to life on paper.
